Can You Use Aaa if Your Car Is Not Insured

If you are a member of AAA, there are some tips you should know when calling for aaa road service. These tips will help you get assistance quicker, and help avoid any problems with you call AAA. Here are six tips to keep in mind.

1. Always keep your AAA membership card with you.

According to AAA, the membership provides benefits to the actual member, not the vehicle. That means if you are with someone else who is having car problems, you can use your card to get service for their vehicle. The same would work if you don't have a membership but a friend traveling with you does. So if you found yourself asking "can I use my AAA for a friend" you now have your answer. Just make sure that whoever has the membership makes the call.

2. Understand that the American Automobile Association has different levels of membership.

levels

The two most common are their "Basic" and their "Plus" service. A Basic membership will provide roadside assistance and towing of your vehicle for up to five miles from its present location. A Plus membership will increase that to up to 100 miles. You will have to direct the driver to where you want your vehicle towed, so give that some thought prior to calling.

3. If you are stuck along the highway or another place where you do not feel safe, let the operator know.

AAA will prioritize your call based on whether you are in a safe place or not.

4. Know your location before calling and be as specific as possible.

If you are along the roadway, know the street name or route number. Know the mile marker if possible. The more details you can provide about your location the easier it will be for the tow truck driver to find you.

5. Stay with or near your car, unless it is in a dangerous spot.

near

If so, let the operator know, and they can contact local authorities to send a police vehicle with emergency lights to warn oncoming vehicles of your disabled car.

6. If you forgot to renew your membership within the past year, don't let that stop you from calling AAA for help.

The organization will generally provide you service if you renew your membership via the telephone. However, they will not let you upgrade to a Plus membership just to get additional towing.

Remember that being a member of AAA does not replace having car insurance. If you get into a car accident, the first person you should call is your car insurance agent. You will need to give them clear details about the accident as well as file a claim with them. It is a great idea to contact your auto agent every so often to keep you up to date with your current rates as well as what is covered when you get into an accident. Check now to see if you are receiving the lowest rates available for the automobile you are now driving.

The best way to insure low auto insurance rates is to have a clean driving record. You can fight your red light ticket, speeding ticket, or other traffic tickets or you may be able to take an online traffic school to dismiss the ticket.

Even the best of defensive driving skills can't prevent every problem on the road. Knowing these six tips can help make any mechanical problems a little more bearable.
